Warren Peter Balish, known to family and friends as "Peter," passed away peacefully in his home August 5, 2021. He was born September 23, 1967 to Marilyn Thye Balish and Warren Nicholas Balish in Davenport, Iowa. Peter was a well-known restauranteur in Washington D.C. whose name is synonymous with many local favorites. For more than 30 years he has been an advocate for D.C. restaurants and restaurant workers. He was a serial entrepreneur and owner of Cleveland Park Bar & Grill, Vida, and Fat Pete’s BBQ. Peter was a graduate of The Gow School of Buffalo, New York and he attended Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Peter was a champion of the underdog, and was generous and loyal to all who knew him. He was an avid golfer, enthusiastic skier, and a good friend to all. Peter will be remembered by his family and his many dear friends for his quick wit, big heart, celebratory spirit, and his love for the District of Columbia. Peter is survived by his parents Marilyn and Warren Balish, his sister Elizabeth "Betsey" Balish, his brother Christopher Edward Balish, sister-in-law Susannah Cameron Balish, nephews Ian Phillip Balish and William Andrew Balish, and nieces Cameron Elizabeth Balish and Kate Allison Balish. A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (619 10th Street NW) at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
